Week One Reflection

Hello All, This week in class we created our blog. I think I was mostly surprised at how easy it was to set up. The usefulness of blogs in education has been discussed at length. Some of the idea we've come up with are very duable. I really like the idea of using a blog as a resource for teacher to communicate about how to modify lessons, change techniques, and improve instruction. Blogs would also be useful in creating a place for students to be retaught on material they missed or did not understand in class. It could be a place for parents to familiarize themselves with what is being done in class and to know how to work with their child at home on assignments. While I am a little concerned about the time it would take to post all of this information I am fairly confident that once students knew how to use it, it may prove to be a time saver in the long run. If students knew how to access the information the teacher may have to do less reteaching in the classroom. Technology is a wonderful asset in the classroom as long as students have access to it at home and the school is proficient in technological capabilities. I know that right now a blog may not prove useful with my age group or classroom due to the lack of technological resources in the school as well as lack of understanding on general computer use. Fourth grade may be too young...however, this tool may be very useful with the older age groups. I look forward to further discussion on technology in the classroom.

The Old Beginning

Well lets begin here....
I am new to blogging but I am familiar with it. I am currently working on a education class for my masters that required us to create one. I have always enjoyed journaling but had never thought that I would want a blog. Since I can type faster than I can write this may work out to be more useful for me. I guess I can be honest and say I've always had the best intention with journals but I tend to abandon them because I just don't have time. I'm looking forward to working on this one because there are lots of exciting things going on in my life that I just don't seem to be able to communicate quickly or effectively with all my friends and family. I've never liked My Space or Facebook because of how it is frequently misused....maybe this is a more appealing alternative.
So this is a new beginning for this blog but it will be filled with information started by the old beginings of my life. This next month will hold a world of changes for me. I'll find out when my husband will be leaving for training, where we will be assigned next.....and then of course there is the trip home to the wintery cold that I've not been around for a few years. So, I hope you enjoy reading about my old beginnings and new stories! I will enjoy sharing them!
